ABOUT

Maryam Zaree, Burghart Klaußner, Mark Waschke, Philip Froissant, Katharina Thalbach, Joel Basman, Tua El-Fawwal, Tom Schilling.
Henning Neidhardt, born 1992 in Bocholt, Germany, was exposed to varied forms of music due to his musically inclined family early on. He won first prize at the regional competition of “Jugend Musiziert” (“Young Musicians”) in 2010 as well as the national competition of the same later on, both times in the category of pop accompaniment.
Whilst working on his high school graduation Neidhardt prepared for the entrance exams to a jazz piano study, eventually securing one of the much contested spots for the bachelor study of Jazz - Performing Artist in the Netherlands (Amsterdam and Enschede) in 2013. He studied under renown musicians, among which Ruud Ouwehand, Karel Boehlee, Sebastian Altekamp, Reinier Baas and John Hondorp. To expand his musical horizon as well as to build his network, Henning Neidhardt moved to the Folkwang University of the Arts (FUOA) in Essen, Germany, in 2016. At the FUOA, he enjoyed the tutelage of musicians such as Thomas Rückert, Ryan Carniaux, Sperie Karas and Peter Herborn, successfully completing his studies there in 2019.

May of 2018 saw Henning Neidhardt represent the jazz department of the FUOA for the ‘Steinway and Sons jazz sponsorship awards’. After his solo concert, he was awarded first prize. The jury was made up of the WDR big band bass player John Goldsby as well as the New York pianist Helen Sung.

In conjunction with Mentalist Timon Krause, Henning Neidhardt developed the initial ideas for a show concept combining mind reading and music in 2013. Following a collaborate performance with millions of people watching during the finals of the Dutch TV show Holland’s Got Talent in 2016, 2017 saw the start of their joint Mindgames show tour, with over 100 shows played in the Netherlands alone. International tours followed. Henning Neidhardt still holds the position of musical director for all of Timon Krause’s live shows, composing and performing the live soundtrack to the shows with German drummer Kevin Wolf.

In April of 2020, Henning Neidhardt published his first solo album, Sound Sculptures. The title refers to the soundscapes contained within this project. To create these, Neidhardt records sounds and noise from his numerous travels as well as during everyday situations, eventually working them into his compositions. Modular synthesisers, acoustic instruments and guest performers enrich and complete these recordings.

Henning Neidhardt became a Sequential Artist in 2019, introducing his work with the Prophet REV2 and it’s impact on his solo album Sound Sculptures in a spotlighted interview with the company. You may find this interview here: Sequential Interview.

Starting in 2019, Henning Neidhardt formed the Henning Neidhardt Trio, engaging in regular intensive work. This jazz trio has found their place between Modern Jazz and experimental sounds. The compositions Neidhardt creates specially for this trio combine influences from traditional jazz and modern composers like the Danish Jakob Bro as well as synthesiser-based soundscapes. The members of the trio (Duy Luong and Karl-F. Degenhardt) met during their jazz studies at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen.

Apart from his work as leader and sideman in the above musical constellations, Henning Neidhardt freelances for several jazz projects, performs concerts, enjoys an excellent reputation as studio musician for different productions and offers lessons for classical and jazz piano to pupils of all age groups.
In 2021/ 2022 Neidhardt worked as the composer for the FYEO Original audio drama Enter Europa in cooperation with CZAR Film GmbH. Featured actors are: Maryam Zaree, Burghart Klaußner, Mark Waschke, Philip Froissant, Katharina Thalbach, Joel Basman, Tua El-Fawwal, Tom Schilling.
